When optimising product pages for more sales and user experience, merchants tend to forget about the size charts. As little detail as it may seem, size charts can directly influence sales and return rates.
If people can't find the right size, they either don't buy anything to return the item later. In both cases, you lose sales.
So, if you sell apparel, shoes or any other product that requires an accurate size measurement, you need size charts in your Magento store.
The best part? You don't need to research all the metrics, sizes and measurements for that with tools like
by Magefan.Everything is already done for you. And in this guide, you'll learn how to add size charts in Magento and how to manage them to get the best results.
What is the Size Chart in Magento?
Magento size chart is a guide that allows customers to choose clothing for different items by comparing the size options (XS, S, M, L, XL) to their body measurements (arm, waist, bust, hips, etc).
Magento, by default, doesn't provide any size chart options, but you can implement it through a variety of third-party
.How to Add Size Charts in Magento?
Since we're working with the Magefan Size Chart Builder, the first step is to install and enable the extension. After that, all you have to do is tweak a few settings.
Step 1: Configure the label
Navigate to Content > Size Chart > Configuration > Design and upload your size chart Icon. Additionally, you can customise the label through the Custom CSS option.
Step 2: Choose the size chart template
Then go to the Content > Size Chart > Size Charts and review all the templates available there. You can choose between the most popular clothing categories — Men/Women Top & Bottoms.
So you can either copy the size charts from any of these templates or create your own from scratch. Just press the Add Size Chart button to start.
Step 3: Fill out basic size chart information
Here, you just Enable the size chart once you finish, set the Name and Priority for it. The latter defines what size chart will be displayed if there are multiple of them assigned to one product (based on conditions).
e.g. you have 2 size charts assigned to the "Women Top" category, but one has the Priority set to 0 and the other to 5. The size chart with the 0 Priority will be displayed in this case.
Step 4: Choose the size chart position
This stage is where you define where the size heart will be displayed on the page. It could be Popup or a product Tab.
If you go with the Popup option, specify the Size Attribute. Although it seems logical to display the size chart near the size attribute, you can choose any other place.
In case of the Tab option, specify the Tab Title and Position. The 0 position means the size chart tab will be displayed first.
Finally, choose which Website to display the size chart on.
Step 5: Create/paste size chart
If you've selected any of the templates before, just paste the content in the editor and tweak the style and colours if needed.
The handy editor allows you to create a size chart easily from scratch, too. Just explore the options to add tables, text, images or videos. Whatever works best for you.
Step 6: Define display conditions
The last thing you need to add size charts in Magento is to define conditions. You can assign size charts to the entire category or specific products. Additionally, there is an extensive list of other product attributes to use.
Note: if you don't set any conditions, the size chart will be displayed on all products.
Once you set the conditions, you can preview the product size chart that will be assigned to. If everything is set up as you intended, just save the size chart and check it out on the frontend.
Step 7: Review size charts on the frontend
Based on your settings, size charts will be displayed either in the pop-up or product tabs.
That's how it will look on the frontend in the pop-up view.
And that's the tab view.
Both options ensure that customers can easily find the size measurement instructions. Just choose the option that works best for you.
Magento Size Charts Best Practices
Setting up size charts in Magento is complete. The size charts are displayed and help customers choose the right sizes more easily. But is that it?
Products and standards change. So, for the size charts to do the very thing you created them for, you have to keep up with the best practices.
Clarity of information
People look for size charts, so choosing the size is easier than without them. To ensure that, consider including detailed instructions on how to measure a specific body part rather than providing blank numbers.
Customers should be able to find the perfect fit. Help them do that with clear and accurate measuring information.
Up-to-date data
Sizing standards constantly change. So do products. Your size charts have to display the latest information. Otherwise, they won't perform their primary purpose — reduce returns due to inaccurate size information. Update your size charts regularly.
More targeted size charts
Products differ depending on gender, manufacturer, age, etc. That's why you can't expect one size chart to cater to the needs of all customer groups at once.
Personalise customer experience and display different size charts on different categories, so finding the right size is more targeted. Besides, take into account international size metrics if you sell worldwide.
As you can see, adding and updating size charts in Magento is possible without the extra hassle with code and metrics. Magefan helps you with that.
However, to make the most of it, make sure your size charts are targeted, personalised and user-friendly. That's the best approach to reduce returns, boost customer trust and increase sales correspondingly.
