Product reviews and ratings are the very first things everyone pays attention to when buying a product. It's better to know if other people are satisfied with the product quality, service and store in general prior to the purchase.
Magento reviews and ratings are a great way for you to receive honest feedback about your products that will eventually result in new purchases of those products based on overall reviews.
So, in this article, you're going to learn how to manage reviews and ratings in Magento 2.

Magento 2 allows you to easily manage ratings and reviews in the admin panel. Whenever there is a review added, it is stored for your approval. However, you're also able to add a review and set the rating criteria yourself.

In order to add the rating criteria take the following steps:

Note: if you leave the Store View Rating Title blank, Default Value will be used instead.
- Choose the Store View the rating will be visible on.
- Enable it by checking the Is Active option.
- Set the Sort Order, the position of the rating in the list of ratings.
Once you finish, don't forget to Save the Rating.
Now customers can either leave a rating to show their appreciation or check other customers' ratings before purchasing a product.
General Reviews Configuration
Before you start receiving reviews on your Magento 2 store, you have to configure general review settings.
For that, go to Stores > Configuration > Catalog > Catalog and find the Product Reviews section. All you need to do here is to Enable product reviews and choose whether you want to Allow Guests to Write Reviews.
Manage Reviews in Magento 2
All reviews have pending status in Magento 2 so you can approve or disapprove them. To make reviews management in Magento 2 more convenient, All Reviews and Pending Reviews are in separate tabs.
To manage reviews:
1. Go to Marketing > User Content > All Reviews.
On the reviews page you will be able to see all approved, pending and disapproved reviews.
2. Select the Review you'd like to edit.
3. Edit Review Details.
You will be able to see the product the review was left for and the author. These are the only options you can't edit.
- Edit the Detailed Rating.
Note: the Summary Rating will change based on the detailed rating after you save the review.
- Choose the Review Status: Approved, Pending, Not Approved.
- Edit the Nickname of the person, who left a review, Summary, and actual Review text.
Don't forget to Save Review once you finish and check it on the storefront.
As you see, managing Magento reviews and ratings isn't hard at all. If you sell better products/services than your competitors and provide a high-quality customer experience along with that - you'll be getting a lot of feedback you can use to provide your customers with even better service.
But for that, you have to stay updated about the customers' feedback. Magento, unfortunately, doesn't provide that, but Magento 2 Admin Email Notification extension does.
It allows you to configure reviews admin and email notifications, so you are always aware of new reviews even if you are not logged into your admin.
