Does this WebP Extension support older Safari (Apple), Firefox or other non-WebP browsers?

Our WebP Extension uses the fallback to the original PNG and JPG images for browsers or their versions that don’t support WebP.

So, the extension loads different files for different visitors of the same page — .webp images for WebP-friendly browsers, and original .png/.jpg for browsers that don’t support WebP. No one sees broken images.

Does this module replace the original PNG and JPG images (paths) in the database?

No, our extension doesn't replace the original images or their paths in the database. It creates a copy of an image in WebP format and stores it in a separate folder.

Then, if a user comes from a browser that doesn’t support WebP, the extension loads the original image to ensure a seamless experience on all browsers.

Do I need to make some server and template changes or connect some external services to use this Magento WebP extension?

Magefan WebP extension doesn’t require access to your server or any theme changes to work. It also works independently without any external services.

Can I install your Magento 2 WebP Images module via the composer?

Yes, you can. All our modules can be installed via the composer. Once you purchase the extension, you receive keys to the private Magefan composer repository and find the composer installation commands available in the "My Downloads" section.

How to start the WebP conversion once I install this extension?

Once you install the extension, all you need to do is enable it. All recommended settings are already preset. So, once you enable the module, it starts generating WebP images.

You can change the settings or extend them to the advanced options to optimise the WebP conversion (if needed).

How does WebP conversion happen: by cron or immediately after upload to the admin?

Our Magento WebP extension offers you 5 different conversion options:

- Page load — images are converted (e.g. on a certain page) as someone loads a page
- Cron — our cron searches for and convers all images that haven’t been converted to WebP
- Page load & cron — combination of the previous two methods
- CLI command — you trigger WebP conversion for all or specific image folders manually
- Admin upload — you upload pre-converted WebP copies to your admin panel.

Can I change the WebP image quality and size?

Yes. Just clear WebP cache under Stores > Configuration > Magefan > WebP Optimized Images to delete all previously generated WebP images. Then change the Quality store and generate new images with any of the preferred conversion modes.

How does the WebP extension know what static or media folders to convert images from?

Our Magento 2 WebP Images extension converts all images on your website using the conversion method you set, then creates and stores the WebP files in a separate folder.

However, you can specify a folder where you want to convert images from or a folder you’d like to skip from conversion.

The installation of the extension was quiet easy, no problems, also the configuration is very easy. To find the right compress quality was also very easy. Very good extension that allows to convert on the fly all jpg and png catalog images to Webp for compatible browsers. For Safari and old browsers, the original format is kept, which solves this old problem of the webp format not being used for browser reasons. An obvious gain of loading in mobile android thanks to Webp from 30 to 40% less heavy for the same quality. Moreover it is compatible with the free lazyloading module. Thanks to Magefan for this work.
