How to Configure FedEx Carrier in Magento?

FedEx Corporation — earlier Federal Express Corporation and now FDX Corporation — is the USA delivery service that enjoys the trust of its clients all over the world. It provides shipping services by land and air, with overnight delivery being one of their most popular options.

You should definitely consider FedEx as one of the delivery options to lit along other Magento 2 shipping methods. This way you will create a customer-friendly environment and provide more convenient shipping ways to choose from.

1. Create a FedEx Merchant Account

First things first. You will need to create a FedEx merchant account and make sure to register to FedEx Web Services Production Access. Then you will have to click on the Obtain Production Key link on the production account information page and finish the registration process. After that, you will receive a key that will be used to configure FedEx in your Magento store.

2. Enable FedEx for Magento

To enable FedEx as a shipping option on your store, go to Stores > Settings > Configuration > Sales > Delivery Methods > FedEx and set Enable to Checkout to Yes to proceed with the further configuration.

3. Add credentials from your FedEx account, namely: 

  • Account ID
  • Meter Number
  • Key 
  • Password

4. Set the Sandbox Mode either to Yes if you want to use FedEx Sandbox in a testing environment, or to No, if you are ready to use FedEx as a shipping method in your store.

3. Fill in the Packaging Description

  • In the Packaging Request Type choose an option that is more suitable for your store when it comes to dividing an order into multiple shipments. Divide to equal weight (one request) and Use origin weight (few requests) are the options to choose from.
  • Choose the Packaging type for your shipments.
  • In the Dropoff field select the pick-up ways for the delivery. Magento gives you 5 options to choose from, everything depends on your requirements. 
  • Set the Weight Unit either to Pounds or Kilograms.
  • Specify the Maximum Package Weight, but don't forget to consult your shipping carrier concerning this question.

4. Complete Handling Fees

  • Choose the Calculate Handling Fee, either Fixed or Percent.
  • Choose whether to Apply Handling per order or per package.
  • Fill in the amount of the Handling Fee.
  • Set Residential Delivery to Yes for B2C residential deliveries or to No for B2B residential deliveries.

5. Set Allowed Methods and Applicable Countries

  • Choose the Allowed Methods that will be offered to your customers'.
  • Fill in Hub ID, if you use the Smart Post method.
  • In the Free Shipping field, choose the FedEx services you would like to be free.
  • Set Free Shipping Threshold to Enable and specify the minimum number of quantities available for free shipping in the Free Shipping Amount Threshold field.
  • Add the Displayed Error Message that will be displayed when the carrier is not available.

  • In the Ship to Applicable Countries field, choose whether you want to ship your products to All Allowed Countries or Specific Countries.
  • In the Ship to Specific Countries field, select the countries you would like to ship your products to.
  • Set Debug to Yes if you want to have the FedEx shipment details gathered in a log file.
  • Choose whether to display FedEx Method even if it is not applicable.
  • Fill in the Sort Order field to set the position of the FedEx carrier in the delivery methods list on the checkout page.
